Work Placement Force
The Sara Riel Inc. Work Placement Force Program (WPF) supports adults living in Winnipeg and surrounding areas who experience mental health concerns, with their goal of achieving competitive employment.
The Program is funded through Manitoba Entrepreneurship Training and Trade and Family Services and Consumer Affairs. The program began at the request of the Canada Employment Centre in St. Boniface in June of 1990 and has been in full operation since August 27, 1990. The Work Placement Force provides support for up to 100 clients annually. Fifty percent of clients are expected to be employed during the contract year.
The program provides work re-entry support to adults who have been absent from the workforce due to a mental health concern. Individuals who are currently employed and at risk of losing their employment or who are employed but are considered to be underemployed, are also eligible for services.
The Program delivers services in part through:
- Skill Development Workshops – See details below
- Marketing: Assisted Employment Services
- Placement
- Supported Job Search
- Work Site Support
- Supported Education
- Counselling and Referral Services
Workshop Scheduling – in recognition that some participants with mental health concerns may not function productively in the morning hours, the current Skills Development workshops and the new Pre-Employment workshops will also be available during the afternoon.
Intensive Employment Support Services – provision of more intensive employment supports for participants who require them at the work site, primarily through one-to-one services of an employment facilitator, especially during the early stages of employment.
Job Retention Supports – for participants who secure employment, job retention supports may be provided to aid the participant in maintaining employment. Supports may include: weekly contact with the participant to provide troubleshooting and crisis intervention on the job, and assistance for participants to manage change in the work place.
Employment Support Funds – WPF will have ready access to employment support funds to cover small, but often critical items required to ensure employment opportunities are not missed, such as transportation, work boots/clothing, haircuts, driver's license fees, and criminal record checks.
Program Evaluation – annual program evaluations will be conducted to help improve and strengthen program services.
